Disrupting the Status Quo

What can be more satisfying to the creative inner-self in each one of us than to accomplish something that disrupts an existing status quo?

Being creative is about doing something, or saying something or coming up with something that no-one has done or said or made before. So creativity is really a deviation from the norm. What is ironic here is that we have a negative connotation to the abnormal. In psychology and biology, anything deviating from the norm is considered abnormal, requiring some sort of clinical interference to bring it back to the levels accepted as normal.

Could there be a link between insanity and creativity? Well in Lebanon, some of the greatest artists and writers and poets have a traditional way of wearing their hair long and fuzzy, a picture that is also traditionally linked to those attending a mental asylum.

Strange times

Well, not to publish it, just to comment on it: Today is my Birthday.

After hitting 30, birthdays take a different meaning, less a reason to celebrate and await gifts, more a time to contemplate and enjoy the time you are in now with you wonderful son and fabulous wife, as well as friends and family.

Some interesting statistics: The most used form for birthday wishes this year was Facebook, and by far. But it was a reminder of the strange times we live in when I got various email messages from robots wishing me a Happy Birthday! Well technically they were automatically generated email synchronized to be sent on my Birthday on the correct time zone, but since no human action was required, I can call them robots! No bad I couldn't send back with a thanks so I thought I'd blog this as a thanks you to all those robots who joined humans in wishing me a Happy Birthday, you all make me blush.....
